Message from Chief Executive Officer Caroline Bull
It’s a pleasure to be contacting you to share some of our latest news. For CCT Venues it has been a busy, successful and enjoyable year so far!
We started 2018 by completely redesigning and refurbishing our venue on Marsh Wall and created CCT Venues-Docklands. In over 25 years of opening and operating venues, I am most proud of this one.
The redesign was undertaken by a small internal, inspired team. Unlike larger organisations, we do not employ interior designers but instead work with local craftspeople, small, quality builders and our own team, pooling ideas on layout, design and IT. As a result, this venue is warm and stylish and much loved by the team that helped to create it. Theming the space around the historic docklands location and using huge wall coverings depicting traditional working scenes, plus reclaimed wood and natural materials in the restaurant finishes, and state-of-the-art technology to the rooms helped create the result we wanted.
I am also delighted with the new outside terrace, which has been adorned with an igloo ready for Christmas! We have received a very positive response from our clients who have given fantastic feedback – reflected in budget-beating bookings for many months ahead.
As well as strong commercial performance with growth in both our City and Canary Wharf locations, other areas I am proud of include our on-going commitment and recognition in the areas of sustainability and gender equality. Once again, we have been shortlisted for high-level recognition in the Green City Awards for our contribution to reducing waste and increasing recycling. One such example is this year we are replacing our delegate pens (we use about 75,000 a year) with pens made from corn starch rather than non-recyclable plastic. We have also undertaken a programme across the business to reduce our carbon footprint year on year with ambitious new targets for 2019.
We were also recognised in the London Venue Awards earlier this month, receiving a Silver Award for Employing Women and Gender Equality. I am fortunate to have never been held back from achieving my ambitions because of prejudice and I am delighted to be part of an organisation which actively supports the development of women and people from minority groups. At CCT Venues we simply look for talent and passion and this, as we all know, comes in many different shapes and sizes. In my view a diverse organisation is a rich organisation.

Introducing our new faces
Ivari Kare - General Manager, Central London Venues
Ivari began his hospitality career in 2001 in Estonia. He moved from catering to the hotel industry, where he worked front of house, before taking on sales and hotel management roles. His career has also involved working and training teams in Breda (The Netherlands), New York and Washington DC.
Ivari joined CCT Venues in August 2018 as the General Manager for our Central London venues and is looking after our Barbican, Farringdon and Smithfield sites, delivering excellent customer service with a team of 25.
“The secret of great customer service is the attention to detail,” he says. “The customer journey involves so many variables and it’s crucial to hit all the right notes to get the best results. Building relationships with customers based on respect, trust and mutual understanding is a key to successful and long-lasting partnership.”
Hannah Smith - Assistant General Manager, Central London Venues
Hannah started with CCT Venues in February 2018 as Senior Events Manager for Canary Wharf and then was promoted in August to Assistant General Manager for our Central London venues. Her main responsibilities are deputising for the General Manager in his absence, managing the events team at Barbican, Farringdon and Smithfield, and managing accounts and daily diaries for each venue.
Hannah’s background is in hotels, having worked for Marriott for 10 years in sales and events. During this time, she managed a number of high profile clients such as ATP, Panasonic during the London Olympics 2012, Karcher, Heineken, and international cricket and football teams.
Andrea Mantovani - Event Manager, Canary Wharf Venues
After leaving Italy as a professional football player for UEFA European Championship League teams Brescia Calcio and Feralpi Salo’, Andrea started his hospitality career with CCT Venues in 2014 as a member of the Front of House team.
Andrea was promoted to Events Assistant, Events Coordinator in 2015, Event Executive in 2016 and Senior Event Executive in 2018 for our Canary Wharf venues.
Having shown a huge amount of dedication and hard work, Andrea was once again promoted to his current position of Event Manager managing a team of four and overseeing clients’ events at our Canary Wharf venues.
Two top honours at the London Venue Awards
We believe in recognising and nurturing talent and take pride in our inclusive, diverse business.
As Caroline’s intro mentioned, we were thrilled to win the London Venue Awards Silver Award for Employing Women and Gender Equality.
We were also delighted that our newly refurbished CCT Venues-Docklands site was shortlisted in the ‘Best New or Refurbished Venue’ category.
The quality of entries this year was outstanding with some fantastic displays of expertise, creativity and innovation, setting the benchmark for all those working in London’s iconic venues.

Spotlight on: Wood Wharf
Our Docklands site is within easy reach of London's bustling Canary Wharf. And now the area right on its doorstep, billed as Wood Wharf, is set to become another of the capital's most exciting business districts.
The Canary Wharf Group (CWG) is pressing ahead with Phase 3 of this 700,000 sq ft. development, and work is expected to start in June next year. It seems Brexit and the softening of the residential apartment market in London isn't having an impact on the plans.
This next stage will see the construction of seven new buildings, of which 390,000 sq ft. will be offices, 165,000 sq ft. residential, and 235,000 sq ft. retail and leisure use.
